Star and Mr. Moon, original art dolls designed by poofydove

I am super excited to announce that two of my soft sculptures are being featured in Stuffed Magazine this August 2013!!!

One of the things that shows up over and over again in my sketchbooks is the man in the moon. In general I enjoy drawing anthropomorphic creatures, but I have always had a special place in my imagination for Mr. Moon. So the eventual creation of the star and moon soft sculptures was only natural :)

They are a simple construction, made out of two identical pieces of fabric. Then the faces are hand sculpted using the needle and thread to give it a more 3-D feel. The details are hand painted using acrylic paint.

I think they are one of my sweetest designs so far. They have a simplicity that is reminiscent of childhood, play and a full imagination.

I hope you enjoy them!

One of these stars is for sale currently on my Etsy store, stop by and check him out :)

Embroidery Hoop Art

I love painting on embroidery hoops. They are a beautiful, informal and intimate way to display fine art in the home. These are some embroidery hoops that I have created using acrylic paint on fabric. Some are still for sale on my Etsy shop and some have sold.

Check out more of my artwork and embroidery hoops on my Etsy shop :)

Hello Mr. Fox!

I have made a wonderful discovery!
Last weekend I went to Joann fabrics to pick up a few things, and discovered
fabric paint pens! I love to draw and I love to sew....so I am super excited about
being able to bring the two together to make some new creations! For this foxy
pillow I used both hand embroidery and the paint pens to create the look of fur.
It's so much fun! :))

Woodblock Results

Hello!

A few weeks back I shared some photos of an in-progress woodblock that I was carving.
Here are some results from the finished block.

The first photos show the woodblock printed on fabric and the second set show the woodblock printed on paper as part of a mixed media piece.

New stuff in the works!

I love printmaking. It is such a unique way to make art!
I started on these doves today and took a few pictures to show you how they are created

I started by drawing my design directly on the block,
keeping in mind that when it is printed the image will be reversed

Then bit by bit I used my woodblock tools to cut away the areas that I want to stay white.
This part of the work takes a lot of concentration, because it's never fun to
accidentally cute where you don't mean to!

I will be sure to keep showing you my progress :o)

Homeward Handmade

Hilary, the artist behind Homeward Handmade on Etsy is one of my favorite people in the world. Both of us were studio art majors at Miami University in Oxford Ohio, and we got to know each other while attending some of the same art classes and sharing a studio space. We also collaborated on our B.F.A. gallery exhibition during my senior year.
I admire her as an artist for many reasons. She is passionate, driven, and has an incredible eye for beautiful things.
Her shop on Etsy is full of lovely creations inspired by nature including flower beards (my personal favorite), bridal head pieces and everyday items such as headbands and hair clips. She also has a super awesome blog full of interesting posts about life, food, and art.
